New
I was informed about the recent death of Dominic’s cousin, which appears to be gang-related and has understandably caused significant distress for Dominic. He has not brought this up himself, so I made sure to alert the other staff members to monitor him closely and provide emotional support as needed. I also notified his therapist, who may reach out to Dominic to offer additional counseling.
There is concern about another youth on campus who has been provoking Dominic, which could escalate given Dominic’s current emotional state. I have requested that Dominic be separated from this individual to prevent any conflict and to maintain a safe environment for him. Dominic is currently housed in a different cottage on the opposite side of campus, which should help reduce interactions.
I will continue to observe Dominic’s behavior closely and coordinate with staff and his therapist to ensure he receives the support he needs during this difficult time. Follow-up will focus on his emotional well-being and maintaining a safe placement.

Yes please because dom has been doing so well hearing him
On the phone and yesterday we talked on the phone he said he was worried it
was going to effect how far he has come I told him to stay away from anyone
that may make him react but yes the funeral is today I called out there to
let staff know when the family found out about the shooting and him
passing…dom knew the funeral was today hea gonna need everyone to just
please leave him be right now by the way it sounds to me is someone keeps
“poking the bear” with dom and I cannot have that jeopardize my sons
freedom it needs to stop from
Both sides if ita my son or the next kid I just need it to stop cus dom
will snap right now with everything he’s carrying

Can we separate dom from the kid who made the comment or the kid that is
causing an issue for dom? Please they need to be separated if he continues
to poke at dom dom is going to snap and I dont think that is fair to my son
so at this point I’m concerned for my sons safety around the kid and would
hope that you guys could possibly switch them into different cottages or
something

I am sharing this only with you because I do not believe it would be well
received by Amber.
I wanted to provide some additional perspective regarding the recent incidents
involving Dom. In both situations, reports from staff and peers have
consistently indicated that Dom played a role in instigating the conflicts. At
the same time, I want to be clear that this behavior is not typical of Dom. He
has generally been one of my strongest students and has historically done very
well in the program.
The student with whom Dom has been having difficulties has been in placement for
approximately four months. Prior to yesterday's incident, he had only received
consequences on two occasions, once for vaping and once for being out of bounds.
He has not demonstrated a pattern of bullying or ongoing behavioral issues
during his time here.
My primary concern is not the physical altercations themselves, but rather Dom's
refusal to acknowledge any responsibility for his role in the situations. He has
maintained that he had nothing to do with either incident despite multiple
accounts suggesting otherwise. Taking ownership is an important part of growth
and accountability, and that is the area that concerns me most at this time.
That said, I also recognize that Dom is currently dealing with a significant
amount of grief and emotional pain. While his recent behavior is out of
character, it does align with what we often see in youth who are struggling to
process trauma, loss, and overwhelming emotions. This does not excuse his
actions, but it does provide some context for why we may be seeing a side of him
that has not been present previously. In many ways, his current reactions appear
more consistent with someone who is hurting than with someone who is
intentionally trying to create problems.
I am not suggesting that the other student is entirely without fault, as I am
sure words were exchanged by both parties. However, I did want to provide
context that the other student has not historically been someone who causes
significant issues or targets peers.
I simply wanted to share this perspective as you continue evaluating the
situation.

This does not excuse his actions, but it does provide some context for why we may be seeing a side of him that has not been present previously. In many ways, his current reactions appear more consistent with someone who is hurting than with someone who is intentionally trying to create problems.
I am not suggesting that the other student is entirely without fault, as I am sure words were exchanged by both parties. However, I did want to provide context that the other student has not historically been someone who causes significant issues or targets peers.
I simply wanted to share this perspective as you continue evaluating the situation.

I wanted to notify you of an incident involving Dom that occurred on campus.
Based on information provided by on-duty staff, Dom was involved in a ver altercation with a peer related to the incident that occurred the previous day. The two were arguing back and forth when another peer attempted to help de-escalate the situation. During the exchange, comments were made regarding that peer's deceased cousin, which caused the peer to become emotionally escalated and attempt to confront Dom.
Staff were already intervening and positioned between the students to prevent physical contact. Due to the level of escalation among the involved youth, restraints were utilized on two peers in accordance with program procedures. No injuries were reported as a result of these interventions. (Dom was not restrained)
To provide separation and reduce the likelihood of further conflict, Dom was removed from the area by RTS staff and temporarily relocated to another cottage for the weekend.
At this time, this information is based on reports from on-duty staff, as I have not yet reviewed the video footage. If additional information becomes available that differs from this narrative, I will provide an update.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Caution! This message was sent from outside your organization.
I am sharing this only with you because I do not believe it would be well received by Amber.
I wanted to provide some additional perspective regarding the recent incidents involving Dom. In both situations, reports from staff and peers have consistently indicated that Dom played a role in instigating the conflicts. At the same time, I want to be clear that this behavior is not typical of Dom. He has generally been one of my strongest students and has historically done very well in the program.
The student with whom Dom has been having difficulties has been in placement for approximately four months. Prior to yesterday's incident, he had only received consequences on two occasions, once for vaping and once for being out of bounds. He has not demonstrated a pattern of bullying or ongoing behavioral issues during his time here.
My primary concern is not the physical altercations themselves, but rather Dom's refusal to acknowledge any responsibility for his role in the situations. He has maintained that he had nothing to do with either incident despite multiple accounts suggesting otherwise. Taking ownership is an important part of growth and accountability, and that is the area that concerns me most at this time.
That said, I also recognize that Dom is currently dealing with a significant amount of grief and emotional pain. While his recent behavior is out of character, it does align with what we often see in youth who are struggling to process trauma, loss, and overwhelming emotions. This does not excuse his actions, but it does provide some context for why we may be seeing a side of him that has not been present previously. In many ways, his current reactions appear more consistent with someone who is hurting than with someone who is intentionally trying to create problems.
