I spoke with Amber Balentine regarding Domonic’s recent difficulties following the passing of his cousin. Amber expressed concern about an incident where Domonic was slapped by another youth shortly before the funeral, despite staff being aware of his emotional state. She was worried about the lack of additional supervision or separation between the youths involved, especially given the sensitive circumstances. I acknowledged the concerns and reviewed the situation with staff to ensure Domonic’s safety and emotional well-being are prioritized. We have increased supervision and are taking steps to keep Domonic separated from those who may provoke him. I also confirmed that Domonic is currently safe and receiving support to process his grief. I will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates on Domonic’s status and any further measures taken to maintain a safe environment for him.

I will be out of my office conducting Placement Visits on May 26th through May 28th. I will have limited access to my emails or voicemails during this time. Thank you, Brandy Tibbs Juvenile Placement Officer Elkhart County Juvenile Probation Department 1905 Reliance Road     Goshen, IN 46526 Main Office: (574) 538-3000 Phone: (574) 538-3681 btibbs@elkhartcounty.com
I brought it to the staff’s attention when Domonics cousin passed away because I knew he was going through a really hard time…I asked if he could be allowed to contact me so I could let him know he passed away. What concerns me is that, even though staff knew what Domonic was dealing with, another youth reportedly slapped him across the face two days before the funeral, which led to an altercation. If there had already been physical contact between them, I don’t understand why they were still being allowed around each other without extra supervision or being kept apart. I was also told that comments were made about Domonics cousin’s death. Considering everything he was going through, those comments were completely inappropriate and could easily have triggered an emotional reaction from a young kidwho was grieving. I’m not trying to excuse any behavior that may have happened afterward. My main concern is Domonics safety and well-being. After multiple incidents involving the same individuals, I’d like to know what steps are being taken to keep them separated and make sure Domonic can process his grief without being harassed or provoked further. I’d also appreciate an update on how he’s doing and confirmation that he is safe.
